    Knowledge enlightens our life, science and technology creates the future.


     

    近年来,随着互联网、人工智能等科技高速发展,科技携手教育越发成为一种潮流,从美国火到全世界的STEAM教育已然进入国人的视线,为孩子的未来创造了无限的可能性。


    As technology tools such as Internet and AI transform, it has been the prevailing trend to  combine science and technology with education. Originated from the US, STEAM education has been popular over the world and entered China which brings infinite possibilities for the future of our children.


    何谓STEAM?

    What is STEAM?

     

    STEAM是一种教育理念,它是Science(科学), Technology(技术), Engineering(工程), Arts(艺术), Maths(数学)五个词的缩写。意在提倡用跨学科的方法教授科学、技术、工程、艺术和数学方面的知识,支持学生以学科整合的方式认识世界,以综合创新的形式创造世界,培养他们解决问题的创新能力,以适应不断更新,快速变化的人工智能时代。


    STEAM is a concept in education, which stands for Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics. It aims to facilitate teaching STEAM subjects in an inter-disciplinary method. Students are enabled to recognise the world from a multi-faceted perspective, craft the world by holistic innovation, and develop problem-solving skills for the ability to innovate, so that they can acclimatise the ever-evolving and fast-changing AI era.

    2016年,我国教育部将跨学科学习(STEAM教育)写入《教育信息化“十三五”规划》。规划中指出有条件的地区要积极探索信息技术在“众创空间”、跨学科学习(STEAM教育)、创客教育等新的教育模式中的应用,着力提升学生的信息素养、创新意识和创新能力,促进学生的全面发展。


    Ministry of Education, China included inter-disciplinary studies (STEAM Education) in the 'Education Informatisation in the 13th Five-Year Plan' in 2016. It specified that places ought to actively explore IT applications in new education patterns such as innovation corner, inter-disciplinary studies (STEAM Education), maker education, which should facilitate the students' holistic development, awareness and ability on innovation and improve students' attainment on information.

     

     

    那么,STEAM教育与现时中国的教育相遇,会产生怎样令人惊喜的火花呢?

    So, when STEAM comes across current Chinese education, what will happen?


    “让孩子站在未来中央”的万科双语学校,用科技节给了我们答案。

    'Let our children experience the future', VBS Science Fiesta gives us the answer.


    今年的科技节主题为“知识点亮生活,科技创造未来”,以学科融合、互动体验、创意物化、解决实际问题为引领,为学生们打造了多个体验平台。分别从“体验、竞赛、助力、创造”四个维度让VBS的学子们爱科学、学科学、用科学,充分领略科学的深邃与美好。

     

    Titled 'knowledge enlightens our life, science and technology creates the future', Science Fiesta this year offered several opportunities for students to experience science on site, based on subject integration, interactive experience, realising innovation and solving real-world problems. VBS students were able to love science, study science and apply science under four domains - 'experience, contest, boost and create'.


    同时通过科技节的缤纷活动,将学校的STEAM教育竭力推进。

    VBS would also promote its STEAM Education with Science Fiesta this year.

    开幕Opening

    酷炫科技点燃全场

    Science light up the ground


    10月23日下午,万科双语学校操场热闹非凡。身穿白大褂、戴着博士眼镜的同学们带来的动感舞蹈《小小科学家》瞬间萌翻全场,掀开了本届科技节神秘的面纱。杨帆校长致开幕辞。她说:“……如今,全世界人民进入到了科技与信息发展的时代,每一天都有新的科技发明与创造,这些发明与创造让人类的生活更加美好。希望同学们在科技节中玩得开心,学会创造,每一位同学争当小小科学家?!?/span>

     

    VBS playground was in the afternoon of 23rd October. Pupils put on white jackets and glasses for the opening dance 'mini scientists' for Science Fiesta this year. Principal Yang made the opening speech, 'now everybody around the world has entered the era for science and technology. New inventions and creations are made every single day which makes our lives better. I hope you guys have fun, be a mini scientist and learn to create.'

    在酷炫的“超级干冰”的实验中,杨帆校长与学校老师通过实验展示干冰带来的神奇舞台效果。烟雾缭绕的神奇仙境吸引了孩子们的眼球,随着孩子们一声声大大的惊叹声,杨校长宣布“万科双语学校第二届科技节正式开幕”。异彩纷呈的科技节瞬间点燃了学生的激情,科技节正式拉开了帷幕。


    In the super dry ice experiment, Principal Yang and teachers demonstrated the effects brought by releasing dry ice in air. Excited to see the effects as the announcement was made by Principal Yang, students were passionate about the upcoming activities and Science Fiesta officially began.

    体验Experiments session  

    缤纷实验展奥妙

    Demystify the principles behind experiments

     

    精彩纷呈的开幕式结束后,热闹非凡的科学体验活动开启了!丰富多彩、趣味盎然的科学实验可以激发孩子对科学的兴趣,这是学校在推进STEAM教育的初步设计。

    Science experiments session began right after the opening. Experiments raised students' interest towards science which is the primary design for VBS to promote STEAM Education.

    这次科技体验活动内容尤其丰富,涵盖了飞机升力、迷雾之城、人体泡泡、水果电池、火山爆发、大象的牙膏、可以燃烧的水、热情如火、显微镜下的世界、机器人等13个科学体验项目,实验原理涉及物理、化学、生物、计算机等各学科知识,完美契合了学生们喜欢通过体验探索世界的天性!孩子们的眼里绽放着好奇的光芒,在各个神奇的体验地喜悦地穿梭。

    Up to 13 experiments were presented at this session including elevation of airplane, foggy city, battery made by fruits, volcanic eruption, combustible water, world under microscope and robotics. Applying the principles from Physics, Chemistry, Biology and Computer Science, this session tailored students nature on exploring the world.     在各种各样、妙趣横生的科学体验活动中,VBS未来少年成为了自主学习的小主人,在有趣的科学小实验中品悟科技的魅力,感受科技的奥妙,激发对科技的好奇心……大家沉浸在科学创意里,学校操场成了欢乐的科学海洋。

    VBS students took initiatives to explore and experience the mysteries of science by the experiments session presented in the school playground.     竞赛Contest

    齐心协力来闯关

    Work closely together to complete the task

     

    STEAM培养学生的创新意识、合作精神,提高学生的创新设计能力、动手设计能力与综合素质?;诖?,科学组为不同年级学生设计了竞赛活动,其原理为STEAM设计与制作的理念,包括“?;ぜΦ啊薄爸脚拼罡摺薄靶闹械母咚比龃笮捅热钅?。


    STEAM Education develops students' teamwork and awareness on innovation. The Science Department designed several contests for students from different levels, based on the concept of STEAM Education on design and making, including major tasks 'egg protection', 'card stacking' and 'tower building'.


    一年级的“?;ぜΦ啊毕钅?,学生需要通过利用废旧物品(具体材料不限),设计思考,并制作一个?;ぜΦ暗淖爸?,让“鸡蛋宝宝”安全通过防护网。一年级萌宝们创意无限,各种?;ぷ爸昧绽怕俊?/span>

    The task 'egg protection' required Primary 1s to utilise recycled items to make devices which ensured the egg to pass through the gate without breaking. Students used all of their imaginations for the devices.


     

     

     

     

    二年级的“纸牌搭高”项目,学生不能借助任何外力和辅助物品 ,仅能通过设计纸牌造型、团队协作搭出最高的纸牌塔。


    The task for Primary 2s was to stack poker cards as high as possible using cards only.

     

    七八年级的“心中的高塔”项目,则是对物理、数学更深度的运用,用报纸捆绑、粘贴、搭建,什么样的机构才能屹立不倒且“高高在上”?


    The task for Year 7 and 8 students was about application of Mathematics and Physics. They were required to build a stable tower using newspapers. Students were challenged on tower building - what kind of structure would make it stable?

     

     


     

     

     

     

     

     

     

     

     

     

     

     

     

    这次比赛设计与制作活动的目的是让学生通过设计与制作过程,掌握设计的一般过程,进一步理解结构稳定性和强度的相关概念,理解结构与功能的关系,以提高学生的设计能力、动手设计能力、合作精神,激发他们爱科学、探索科学的精神!


    Students were able to master the general procedures on design and understand the durability and stability of structure after participating in the contest. They could understand the relationship between structure and function further which improved their ability in design, working, teamwork and exploring science.

    人工智能显神通

    The AI power


     人工智能是我们学校特色课程之一,此次,人工智能课程为科技节助力,是推进STEAM教育体系中浓墨重彩的一笔,也是学生从知识维度转化为实践维度的推进器。

    As the VBS special, AI has played a key role in both Science Fiesta and part of the STEAM Education. AI allows students to apply what they have just learnt into real world situations.

    负责学校人工智能校本课程的吴萍老师,对这次对科技节做一次统筹,分别从体验、设计、实践三个角度给孩子们提供了丰盛的高科技智能大餐。对应三个角度的则是科技创新组全体精心设计的项目“Make block、图形化编程、奇幻3D打印”。


    Ms Wu Ping, teacher in-charge of AI classes, provided an AI feast for students at Science Fiesta. As one of the VBS school-based curricula, Ms Wu presented projects 'Make block, Graphic Programming and 3D Printing'.


    “Make block”主要是让学生通过操作ipad来控制机器人的运动,让学生了解了从算法程序到设计联动的外显化过程;


    'Make block' allowed students to manipulate the robot's motion via iPad, getting them to understand the explicitation process from algorithms to design linkage

    “图形化编程”屏蔽了代码细节,学生需要利用已学的编程知识,根据主题编写Scratch程序。评委会从游戏的可玩性、完整性来评选出一二三等奖若干名。本次科技节参赛的为三四年级学生。

    In 'Graphic programming' without the code, students were required to write a Scratch programme using what they had learnt. Judges would review the playability and completeness to give out awards to Primary 3 and 4 students accordingly.

    “奇幻3D打印”主要围绕学习用品、生活用品、益智玩具、交通工具等学生热衷的主题激发学生的设计思维,用3D打印机设计和打印出成品。学生们在创作过程中,能够锻炼动手实践能力,发展空间思维能力、审美能力及创造力。


    '3D printing' developed students' design thinking on items from stationery, toys, traffic, using 3D printers. Students practised their ability on working, aesthetics, creation and spatial thinking.


     

     

     

     

     

     


    编程是本校人工智能课程的重点,通过多梯度的校本课程学习,学生可在设计和制作游戏、创作发明的过程中体会创造的快乐,发展计算思维,提升综合学习力。

    Programming is the key component of AI classes. Taking multiple studies based on school-based curriculum, students are able to enjoy the joy of creation via game design and innovation and develop computational thinking and overall study capability.

    第四个维度是“知行合一”的实践板块——“奇思妙想的小发明小创作”。这也是STEAM教育回归现实情境的最终环:面对现实生活的场景,以问题为导向,如何解决现实的困境?

     

    The fourth domain 'practice' demonstrated the inventions made by students, which was also the final step for STEAM Education - returning tothe reality: how to solve the problem-oriented situation?


    每个发明和创造都是从一个个好奇、问题和创意开始,这次给孩子们布置的“生活中的小发明”任务,作品就是由学生利用周末时间自己动手制作。首先由学生留心观察,发现生活中的问题,查阅资料,利用所学知识,发明创作,解决问题。


    Every invention started off with questions. Students were tasked to DIY 'inventions in life' - using weekends to make items which solves issues in daily life. Students had to observe and do research before applying what they had just learnt to come up with items.

    太阳能发电车、电动风车、火禾立金等丰富多彩的作品,不仅展示了同学们的创新意识及动手动脑的能力,也体现了他们的环保意识和感恩意识,以及关注生活、乐于实践、改善生活的高度责任感。


    Samples such as solar power electricity generator demonstrated students' expertise in innovation and operation, and their awareness on environmental conservation. These items also showed students' sense of responsibility in life.

     

    小发明展示区,孩子们侃侃而谈,介绍着自己的一个个“神器”,只有想不到,没有做不到。


    In the show booths, students were busy introducing their own masterpieces which were beyond our inconceivability.



     

















     

    “生活中的小发明” 活动不仅提升了学生学习和思考的热情,而且培养了独辟蹊径的创新精神,让学生享受创造性解决问题的成就感,孩子们解决问题的过程,也是STEAM教育中批判性思维、创造性思维、沟通与表达素养、反思及元认知素养的集中体现。


    'Inventions in life' motivated students to think and study, while developing innovative spirits. Students were able to enjoy the sense of achievement as they solve the problems, of which the process represented key components in STEAM Education - critical thinking, innovative thinking, communication, reflection and metacognition.

     

    有趣神奇创新的校园科技节在同学们热情的参与中落下帷幕,立体维度的STEAM教育设计,让同学们不仅了解了科学小知识,激发了创新意识,也拓展了科技视野,发展了动手操作能力,为应对多变的未来埋下了创新的种子。


    As Science Fiesta has ended, education model from STEAM has enabled students to understand science better, get motivated for innovation and developing handcraft skills for the future.


    让孩子们爱上科技、爱上思考、爱上创新,是学校不懈的教育追求!它让每个孩子参与其中、乐在其中、学在其中,以睿智的科学思维、大胆的奇思妙想,让VBS未来少年永葆好奇心和创造力,眼里有光,心中有梦,大踏步行走在“科技强国”的“中国梦”的征程中,未来可期!


    VBS aspires to empower students with the love for thinking, science, innovation, when both learning and joy takes place. Equipped with scientific thinking, VBS students keep inquisitive and creative minds, bear their hopes and dreams to realise the Chinese Dream and the strong nation with science and technology.







    后记

     

    STEAM教育可培养学生动手技能和多样化的思维角度,在不同的思维方式中交互运用各种知识和技能。在实践与生活相关的项目中,在知识的相互的碰撞中,实现深层次的学习、理解性学习,真正培养儿童各个方面的技能和认识。


    STEAM education develops students' multi-faceted thinking and handcrafting skills, and their skills to apply knowledge in different ways of thinking. They are able to acquire learning at a deeper level when coming across with the knowledge and practising tasks related to life, thus achieving overall attainments and skills.

    VBS is also perfecting the holistic STEAM Education curriculum system.


    但探索和实践,不断前行的路上,我们愿意不惧未知,不畏艰险,去做时代的参与者,历史见证者。只有去参与,去见证,去了解,方能和时代一起前行。

    We have no fear in exploring and practising to be the fortrunner in education and witness history. There is only one way to keep up with the times and we are on our way.

     人工智能是我们学校特色课程之一,此次,人工智能课程为科技节助力,是推进STEAM教育体系中浓墨重彩的一笔,也是学生从知识维度转化为实践维度的推进器。

    As the VBS special, AI has played a key role in both Science Fiesta and part of the STEAM Education. AI allows students to apply what they have just learnt into real world situations.

    负责学校人工智能校本课程的吴萍老师,对这次对科技节做一次统筹,分别从体验、设计、实践三个角度给孩子们提供了丰盛的高科技智能大餐。对应三个角度的则是科技创新组全体精心设计的项目“Make block、图形化编程、奇幻3D打印”。


    Ms Wu Ping, teacher in-charge of AI classes, provided an AI feast for students at Science Fiesta. As one of the VBS school-based curricula, Ms Wu presented projects 'Make block, Graphic Programming and 3D Printing'.


    “Make block”主要是让学生通过操作ipad来控制机器人的运动,让学生了解了从算法程序到设计联动的外显化过程;


    'Make block' allowed students to manipulate the robot's motion via iPad, getting them to understand the explicitation process from algorithms to design linkage

    “图形化编程”屏蔽了代码细节,学生需要利用已学的编程知识,根据主题编写Scratch程序。评委会从游戏的可玩性、完整性来评选出一二三等奖若干名。本次科技节参赛的为三四年级学生。

    In 'Graphic programming' without the code, students were required to write a Scratch programme using what they had learnt. Judges would review the playability and completeness to give out awards to Primary 3 and 4 students accordingly.

    “奇幻3D打印”主要围绕学习用品、生活用品、益智玩具、交通工具等学生热衷的主题激发学生的设计思维,用3D打印机设计和打印出成品。学生们在创作过程中,能够锻炼动手实践能力,发展空间思维能力、审美能力及创造力。


    '3D printing' developed students' design thinking on items from stationery, toys, traffic, using 3D printers. Students practised their ability on working, aesthetics, creation and spatial thinking.


     

     

     

     

     

     


    编程是本校人工智能课程的重点,通过多梯度的校本课程学习,学生可在设计和制作游戏、创作发明的过程中体会创造的快乐,发展计算思维,提升综合学习力。

    Programming is the key component of AI classes. Taking multiple studies based on school-based curriculum, students are able to enjoy the joy of creation via game design and innovation and develop computational thinking and overall study capability.

    第四个维度是“知行合一”的实践板块——“奇思妙想的小发明小创作”。这也是STEAM教育回归现实情境的最终环:面对现实生活的场景,以问题为导向,如何解决现实的困境?

     

    The fourth domain 'practice' demonstrated the inventions made by students, which was also the final step for STEAM Education - returning tothe reality: how to solve the problem-oriented situation?


    每个发明和创造都是从一个个好奇、问题和创意开始,这次给孩子们布置的“生活中的小发明”任务,作品就是由学生利用周末时间自己动手制作。首先由学生留心观察,发现生活中的问题,查阅资料,利用所学知识,发明创作,解决问题。


    Every invention started off with questions. Students were tasked to DIY 'inventions in life' - using weekends to make items which solves issues in daily life. Students had to observe and do research before applying what they had just learnt to come up with items.

    太阳能发电车、电动风车、火禾立金等丰富多彩的作品,不仅展示了同学们的创新意识及动手动脑的能力,也体现了他们的环保意识和感恩意识,以及关注生活、乐于实践、改善生活的高度责任感。


    Samples such as solar power electricity generator demonstrated students' expertise in innovation and operation, and their awareness on environmental conservation. These items also showed students' sense of responsibility in life.

     

    小发明展示区,孩子们侃侃而谈,介绍着自己的一个个“神器”,只有想不到,没有做不到。


    In the show booths, students were busy introducing their own masterpieces which were beyond our inconceivability.



     

















     

    “生活中的小发明” 活动不仅提升了学生学习和思考的热情,而且培养了独辟蹊径的创新精神,让学生享受创造性解决问题的成就感,孩子们解决问题的过程,也是STEAM教育中批判性思维、创造性思维、沟通与表达素养、反思及元认知素养的集中体现。


    'Inventions in life' motivated students to think and study, while developing innovative spirits. Students were able to enjoy the sense of achievement as they solve the problems, of which the process represented key components in STEAM Education - critical thinking, innovative thinking, communication, reflection and metacognition.

     

    有趣神奇创新的校园科技节在同学们热情的参与中落下帷幕,立体维度的STEAM教育设计,让同学们不仅了解了科学小知识,激发了创新意识,也拓展了科技视野,发展了动手操作能力,为应对多变的未来埋下了创新的种子。


    As Science Fiesta has ended, education model from STEAM has enabled students to understand science better, get motivated for innovation and developing handcraft skills for the future.


    让孩子们爱上科技、爱上思考、爱上创新,是学校不懈的教育追求!它让每个孩子参与其中、乐在其中、学在其中,以睿智的科学思维、大胆的奇思妙想,让VBS未来少年永葆好奇心和创造力,眼里有光,心中有梦,大踏步行走在“科技强国”的“中国梦”的征程中,未来可期!


    VBS aspires to empower students with the love for thinking, science, innovation, when both learning and joy takes place. Equipped with scientific thinking, VBS students keep inquisitive and creative minds, bear their hopes and dreams to realise the Chinese Dream and the strong nation with science and technology.

    STEAM教育可培养学生动手技能和多样化的思维角度,在不同的思维方式中交互运用各种知识和技能。在实践与生活相关的项目中,在知识的相互的碰撞中,实现深层次的学习、理解性学习,真正培养儿童各个方面的技能和认识。


    STEAM education develops students' multi-faceted thinking and handcrafting skills, and their skills to apply knowledge in different ways of thinking. They are able to acquire learning at a deeper level when coming across with the knowledge and practising tasks related to life, thus achieving overall attainments and skills.

    VBS is also perfecting the holistic STEAM Education curriculum system.
